WEEK 2

This week was our first animation practice in person.
We started with a talk by Dan Kelby, which I think was very useful, because apart from telling us how his career as a designer started, we also saw more personal elements of his work, such as his first portfolio.
He explained how a standard portfolio should be organized, where to put your best works, which ones not to include and which you should etc. It’s something that’s going to be very helpful to me when it comes to forming my own.
Among many other things, he advised us never to stop drawing, that in art there is a constant learning and that the more we train and practice, the better our work will be.
And this is a new challenge that I’m going to set myself; to draw something every day. Normally almost always due to the projects we work on in each class I am drawing something, but the days when I see that I have nothing to draw, I will look for something to create and thus enhance my skills.
We showed the work we did during the summer. I personally made several sketches on my sketchbooks and others more neat on my iPad, which I ended up transforming into storyboards or a comic strip.
And we finally continued with the work we had from last week.
I had already done the mindmap and the moodboard, and the observational drawings, and the next step was to start with the character design.
Mine I decided it was going to be a maid from the Victorian era, to respond to the brief.
Although I have several ideas of how I want the character to behave and a vague idea of how she might look, I still don’t know what her final look would be, because several types of styles would work.
So I’m going to use the examples that are in canvas, like drawing from shapes, objects or fruits.
